The Level 2 course is a four-day program providing backcountry leaders the opportunity to advance their avalanche knowledge and decision making skills. This course includes prerequisite components for the professional progression to the Level 3 course. The Level 2 course builds on the avalanche hazard management model introduced in Level 1 and adds to it evaluation of factors critical to stability evaluation. In-depth tour planning, weather, snowpack, and instability observations, snowpack layers and metamorphism, rescue scenario, group management and a minimum of 20 hours of field work constitute the course. Student Instructor ratio: 3:1
