Our 2010 AIARE Level 1 and Level 2 Avalanche Courses are key to your backcountry skills. Choose a class in Pagosa Springs or South Fork. All field sessions take place on Wolf Creek Pass.

You will learn to recognize avalanche terrain, gain decision making tools, practice travel techniques in avalanche terrain, and rehearse avalanche rescue skills. Classes are small ensuring individualized instruction (Level 1 - 7 students max per instructor often 4:1; Level 2 - six students max per instructor, often 3:1).

Instructors Sandy Kobrock and Mark Mueller own and operate Wolf Creek Avalanche School, Wolf Creek Backcountry, and the Pass Creek Yurt. Together they have over 60 years of operational avalanche field work and educating neophytes to professionals about avalanches. Their extensive backcountry experience includes ski mountaineering trips in Colorado, the Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, and Europe. Our guest instructors are fun, approachable, seasoned avalanche practitioners.
